Palestinian Political Earthquake: Staggering 80% Want Abbas Out as Support for Hamas Rule in Gaza Surges, Shock Poll Reveals

A bombshell new poll has sent shockwaves through the Palestinian political landscape, revealing a catastrophic collapse in support for Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The survey, conducted by the respected Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR), paints a grim picture of his leadership and indicates a public overwhelmingly demanding a change at the top.

The figures are stark and unambiguous. A staggering 80% of Palestinian Arabs surveyed believe Chairman Abbas should immediately step down from power, with a minuscule 13% still backing his leadership. This deep-seated dissatisfaction with the PA is further highlighted by opinions on the future of Gaza. An overwhelming 77% of respondents assert that Hamas, not the Palestinian Authority, should be the entity to control the Gaza Strip in the future.

According to veteran political analyst Mohsen Saleh, these explosive results are anything but surprising. Speaking with the Palestinian Arab Quds Press, Saleh characterized the findings as the continuation of a "consistent trend" that has been solidifying over the past few years. He noted that this sentiment has been tracked across six consecutive polls conducted by the PCPSR, with public opinion hardening significantly in the period following the October 7th Massacre.

Saleh attributes Abbas's plummeting popularity directly to his style of governance. He pointed to Abbas's "monopoly on political decision-making" and his "sole control of power" as primary drivers of public discontent. The analyst explained that the chairman’s approach has effectively disrupted Palestinian institutional processes and alienated large segments of the population.

Furthermore, Saleh suggested that Abbas's perceived capitulation to "Israeli and American pressures" has severely damaged his standing among the Palestinian people, who see him as increasingly disconnected from their aspirations. The PCPSR poll illustrates a populace profoundly alienated from the Ramallah-based leadership, signaling a potential tectonic shift in Palestinian politics and leaving the future of the Palestinian Authority in serious question.
